This is the facade of Florence's main cathedral, the Duomo. Our hotel was a few blocks away, and the sheer size of this place was truly awe-inspiring.	A gorgeous picture of Ghiberti's bronze doors on the Baptistry, facing the Duomo. These aren't the originals, but the bronze now looks like it first did. These doors show that the Renaissance really did bring back perspective in art. Zoom and and check out the detail!	After Florence our next stop was Siena, a small town in Tuscany. These hymn pages are in the Cathedral's Piccolomini Library (thanks google!). Each of the books was at least 5 feet tall and was very highly decorated. Those notes are probably based on a medieval scale of some sort too.
The dome of Siena's cathedral. This was supposed to be the center of an even bigger cathedral, but the Black Death killed that plan, no pun intended. The walls of cathedral that was intended to be built still exist outside.	In the main square of the town, one of the old medieval buildings. The view from the top of the tower must be nice. (if the line wasn't so long) Also note the very cool clock on the tower.	A perfect view of the southern Tuscany region from the foothills approaching San Gimignano, taken after our big Tuscan lunch!

A view of the town from afar, with some of the medieval towers still standing. The wealthly built these to gain an obvious defensive advantage over any attackers. I don't think a single city we saw except for Rome (sort of) was built on a plain...
The group! Good times :) I'm hiding there somewhere...	The cathedral in Orvieto, not as stunning as Siena's, but the facade blows all the others out of the water.	Definitely zoom in on this, this is only a part of the numerous bas relief scultpures that detail stories from the Bible. I believe this one is about Genesis.
