Roma...the eternal city. This was my favorite day of the trip...the Collosseum and the Forum. Check out the columns, from the bottom it goes Doric, Ionic, Corinthian.	A side view. The sides are so pockmarked because in the Renaissance they drilled the iron out of the stones that held them together. (Thanks Francesca!)	One of the many arches, this one is right behind the Collosseum. Check out the colored marble and the detail!
Inside the arena, looking at the gate which the gladiators came through. You can see the basement levels from here, and also the multiple levels of seats.	On the arch going into the Forum, the Emperor coming into the city with his army. Athena is next to Trajan (i think, might be wrong on that), and the goddess of Rome is leading the whole troupe.	The view of the forum from the emperor's palace.
Same location, now looking at the Collosseum.	Notice the looming basilica in the background. This was the biggest (obviously), and was the house of justice in the city.	The circus maximus, or what is left of it. This would be a cool place to watch a chariot race from.
The remains of a bath in Cesear's house. That might be the coolest foundation I've ever seen.	Now from the Forum's ground level. This place was packed, and it sometimes packed so tightly that it was hard to move. What's cool about this picture is the different times of the buildings...the Forum, the "Wedding Cake" in the background (which I DO like), the newer building in the center, and another being built on the left. Rome truly is eternal.	Like most places in Rome, a temple that was turned into a church. From the door underneath was buried underground, and before the dig they had no clue what the pillars were for (note the giant scratches on them when they tried to take them down)
This is what's left of the House of Virgins, where the eternal flame of the city was kept by a sort of nun-like elite group for public use.	After the tour we came out on Mussolini's Via dei Fori Imperiali. This was on the "little easter" on monday, so people were allowed to walk out on the road. This is a bronze version of Julius Caesar.	And down a bit farther, here's Augustus Caesar. A lot of Italy's power figures are on the road here since Mussolini wanted to remind the people of the history and strength that the country was built upon.
And at the bend before the Wedding Cake, Trajan's Column. This tells the story of one of Trajan's conquests. Zoom in!	Two days later now, now after we visited the Vatican. This is in Piazza Navona. The Romans seemed have liked topping off obelisks with crosses to show how Christianity conquered the pagan religions. Check out the heiroglyphics!	The bottom of the fountain, showing the 4 great rivers of the world: the Tiber, the Nile, the Danube, and something else I can't recall.
Trevy Fountain at night. Beware of strange stalking indian men selling roses!	The "Angel" bridge, a place for a really good deal (or scam) on fake products.	The Pantheon, another former Roman temple that is now a church. The dome has a giant hole in it since another fire was kept here as well for worship.
